The European Union is hoping to obtain 20% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2020.
For the UK, this potentially means that between 30-40% of its electricity will have to come from renewables to meet its share of the target.
Given that, at the moment, it gets only 5% of its energy from renewables even the most optimistic commentators believe that the UK can meet the target.
Dr Dominic Maclaine spoke to Jerry Jewson, Managing Director of West Coat Energy, one of the UK's foremost independent renewable developers about the challenges of meeting the target.
